Description

Dark Chocolate. Cedar. Peach

Well-known for its smooth and full-bodied flavor, this roast is a bold character. Composing of earthy and complex flavors of bittersweet chocolate, peach-like dryness and acidity. The wet-hulling process also known as “Giling Basah” gives this coffee its distinctive earthy character.

Roast

Not dark enough for me prob my mistake

Hello Chris,

Please try our Colombia Dark roast if you'd like something darker!
We like to keep our Sumatra at City Roast (~medium) to maximize its complexity and richness, without any burnt tastes.

Strong Ash Flavor

We were very excited for our beans, and in the bag, roasted Feb 24th, they smell great: rich and earthy. But when we brewed our first cups (1:15 ratio, 205 degree water, medium grind, pour-over, ), the resulting coffee had the strongest cigarette ash flavor and aroma we've have ever tasted from coffee. We have been trying a 1:16 ratio (all other factors remain), and this has helped lessen the literal ash flavor, but it still tastes incredibly burnt. For me, it recalls going to the bank with my parents, and the free burnt coffee sitting in the percolator forever, and my partner says it tastes exactly like burnt diner coffee. Maybe we've just discovered we aren't Sumatra fans, but I can't recall having such a visceral negative reaction to coffee. Would highly recommend not making our dumb mistake: buy a 12 oz bag before committing to a 5 lb bag!

Hello Megan,

Our Sumatra beans do have earthy notes, but I never felt it was ash or burnt coffee flavors.
Let us send you a new batch of the 12oz bag of the same blend and see if you feel the same way!
I'll be in touch soon.

Brooklyn Lab's Brooklyn Blend is the Best

I bought a bag of Brooklyn Blend at the neighborhood market while visiting Brooklyn and liked it so much that I came home and ordered more so I could keep drinking it. The order was seamless and quick. I will keep buying it!

Amazing to hear that Julia. Enjoy and have a wonderful week!!

Perfect medium roast

I got my first order 7 days after the roast date - can't get much fresher than that.
The beans looked great. I woke up early and cranked up my technivorm. Ground the beans medium/coarse.
What a treat! I really get the bittersweet chocolate taste..

Will order again, for sure.

Lovely!!! My personal favorite is Sumatra as well.. bittersweet chocolate with earthy notes :)
